Mind Blowing Super Bowl Biz Stats
Friends,
We hope you enjoyed the national holiday Day After Super Bowl and turned off your "Out of Office" emails from yesterday. Now let's get down to some Biz around the big game...
The biggest sporting event on the planet took place and oh my goodness did a lot happen around the event. Some notable highlights:
Bet On It
FanDuel was expected to handle more than 17 million Super Bowl bets. At its peak, the sportsbook told CNBC, it accepted 50,000 bets per second and averaged 2 million active users on its platform throughout the game.
Halftime Show Does Numbers
Riri's Halftime show gets more views than the game itself. There were 118.7M people watched the halftime show!

The interesting part is that these artists don't get paid to perform at the Super Bowl. The NFL will pay for the logistics and performance itself, but not the talent as they see the exposure as the bigger opportunity rather than the pay. It's an interesting concept, but take a look at some recent performers numbers:
Exposure from the super bowl can translate to a huge spike in music downloads. According to Billboard, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira collectively sold 21,000 downloads (an increase of 893%), the day after their Super Bowl Performance in 2020.
Lady Gaga sales increases over 1,000% after her 2017 performance
Justin Timberlake sales increased over 500% after his performance in 2018.
Surf n Turf
It was quite noticeable players were slipping on the field during the game. Did you know that the field was 2 years in the making and cost $800k?!
The NFL has spent two years preparing the grass for tonight's field at the Super Bowl.
The grass was grown at a local sod farm in Phoenix.
It was installed two weeks ago, and the field has been rolled out each morning for daily sunshine.
Total cost = $800,000

Merch
Ever wonder what happens to the losing teams t-shirts after the Super Bowl? They are actually donated to groups around the globe who need clothes.
The donation will include merchandise from the losing team, as well as that of teams that lost the AFC and NFC Championships, the Cincinnati Bengals and the San Francisco 49ers.The NFL works with nonprofit Good360 to keep the pre-made, unused apparel out of the landfill. The organization collects the clothing items and ships them to āvetted nonprofit partnersā in undisclosed locations in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East, Good360 said.
NIL
If you aren't familiar with Collectives, here's a quick rundown:
Collectives are essentially alumni associations and boosters who have formed independent organizations outside of the school. However, these collectives are able to interact directly with athletes and local businesses to essentially broker deals. They all operate differently, but they ultimately have control with how much they want to offer athletes. They are legal to do in the new NIL era, but some people believe they are going too far.
